ali baba and the forty thieves

This was one of my favorite books growing up. So when the chance came to redesign it , I could not pass it up. I wanted to make it more mature , because the subject matter itself is very strong. It deals with the greed in human nature, how we are never just satisfied with what we had. The consequences of death that result from this and how it affects everyone. Not only this, but it deals with the cleverness of our society, and how quickly we can act on our feet. I wanted to convey this with photographs rather then illustrations. I had stumbled across a great archive of old middle eastern photographs , and just had to use them. Mostly dated from the early 1900s, taken from Syria, Turkey, and Egypt. By adding color , they became more contemporary.

This was then designed as a accordion fold out.

Here are the spreads.
